Bayo Onanuga, President
Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy |
Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, criticized activist Aisha Yesufu on Wednesday, calling her "bitter and toxic" due to the outcome of the 2023 presidential election. Onanuga claims Yesufu's bitterness stems from the defeat of her preferred candidate, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who finished third.
Context and Reactions
Onanuga's
comments were a response to Yesufu's remarks regarding South African President
Cyril Ramaphosa's apparent snub of Tinubu during his inauguration. A viral
video showed Ramaphosa ignoring Tinubu while greeting other leaders in a line.
Yesufu commented on the video, saying, “My people say Pikin wey no hear word
for house na for outside dem go disgrace am! Tinubu disgraced once again in
South Africa.”
Onanuga's Response
In his response, Onanuga labeled Yesufu and her followers as "uncouth and pessimists." He expressed his views on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Aisha and her uncouth horde of pessimists are always quick to rush to judgment with any whiff of what appears to them to be negative to the leader of Africa’s biggest democracy. More than a year after the 2023 election, in which their candidate came third, they remain incurably bitter and toxic, more than the supporters of the man who came second.”
