Former England defender, Micah Richards,
has pinpointed a key mistake by Mikel Arteta as the reason Arsenal lost the
Premier League title this season. Arsenal finished just two points behind
Manchester City, winning 28, drawing five, and losing five of their 38 league
fixtures.
Richards believes Arteta's tactical error
during their match against Aston Villa in April was pivotal. Arsenal lost 2-0
at the Emirates, with late goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins.
On "The Rest Is Football" podcast, Richards explained: "I look back at that Villa game. Arteta opted to use Havertz in the midfield instead of the false nine that had worked so well for them. He could've chosen Jorginho or Partey. Emery, tactically, got it spot on that day. It's disappointing."
