Binance Executive Gambaryan Collapses in Court Due to Ill-Health

A mild drama unfolded at a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday when Tigran Gambaryan, a detained Binance executive facing money laundering charges, collapsed in court. The incident occurred shortly after the case was called for trial continuation before Justice Emeka Nwite, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

When the court registrar called the case, Gambaryan did not come forward from the back row where he was seated. Justice Nwite inquired about his whereabouts, prompting a lawyer on the defense team to assist Gambaryan towards the dock. As they moved slowly, Gambaryan fell, and the lawyer helped him into a front-row seat.

Gambaryan's lawyer, Mark Mordi, explained that his client was indisposed and a written application had been filed to inform the court of his health condition. "My lord, the case may not certainly proceed today," Mordi stated. Throughout the proceedings, Gambaryan rested on the arm of his seat.

On May 16, Justice Nwite dismissed Gambaryan's bail application, agreeing with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's assertion that the defendant might jump bail if released. Consequently, Gambaryan remains in custody at Kuje Correctional Centre.

Additionally, a tax evasion charge filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) against Binance Holdings Limited and Gambaryan could not proceed on Wednesday due to his absence in court.
