MTN
Nigeria Foundation has unveiled its 2024 scholarship program aimed at
supporting education and empowering future leaders in Nigeria. This year, the
foundation has increased the annual award amount for eligible students from
N200,000 to N300,000.
The
scholarship program is divided into three categories: the MTN Science and
Technology Scholarship (MTN STS), the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN
SBS), and the Top 10 UTME Scholarship.
In
a statement released on its official website on Friday, MTN Nigeria Foundation
explained the details of the scholarship program:
MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS)
Established
in 2010, this annual award recognizes high-performing students in Nigerian
public tertiary institutions. Eligible students are those in their 300-level
studying science and technology-related courses at universities, polytechnics,
and colleges of education.
MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS)
Initiated
in 2012, this scholarship targets blind students in their 200 and 300-level
across any course in Nigerian public tertiary institutions. Starting in 2024,
the number of recipients will increase from 60 to 100, with the annual award
amount rising from N200,000 to N300,000. Scholarships are awarded until
graduation, provided the students meet the required grade criteria.
Top 10 UTME Scholarship
Since
2020, the top 10 candidates in the UTME as announced by JAMB automatically
qualify for this scholarship. Recipients are awarded scholarships from their
100-level through to graduation, contingent on maintaining the required grades.
From 2024, the annual award amount will also increase to N300,000. This
scholarship is awarded irrespective of the student's chosen course or
institution, whether public or private.
MTN
Nigeria Foundation emphasized that the scholarships aim to recognize and reward
exceptional students in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Eligibility Criteria
1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS)
· Open to 300-level
students studying science and technology-related courses in public
universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
· Public university
and college students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second class
upper credit).
· Polytechnic
students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary
National Diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into the Higher
National Diploma (HND) program.
· Direct Entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the OND program and must have secured admission into the 300-level/3rd year in a public university.
2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS)
- Open to blind students in their 200 and 300-levels studying any course in public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
- University and college students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5
- Polytechnic students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from the OND program and must have secured admission into the HND program.
