National Grid |
Electricity supply has been restored to
parts of Nigeria, two days after striking workers shut down the national grid.
Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at Enugu Electricity Distribution
Company, informed Daily Post on Wednesday that their distribution company began
receiving power from the national grid around 6 PM on Tuesday.
When asked about the current power status,
Ezeh confirmed, "Yes, we have been restored. We started receiving loads at
18:06 hours yesterday (Tuesday)."
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)
had earlier announced the gradual restoration of power following the suspension
of the strike action by organized labor on Tuesday. It was reported that the
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has also restored electricity to its
customers in Abuja, Nasarawa, and Kogi.
Residents in Gwarimpa, Dawaki, FO1 in
Kubwa, and Utako confirmed on Wednesday that their power supply was restored on
Tuesday night. "Power supply was flashed around 6 PM on Tuesday. At
midnight, the power supply was restored fully," said Benjamin Okoli, a
resident of Kubwa.
This development follows the suspension of the indefinite strike by organized labor on Tuesday. On Monday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had stated that the striking workers shut down the national grid, resulting in a nationwide electricity outage while the strike lasted.
