Mr Peter Obi |
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP)
presidential candidate, has called on security agencies to investigate and
arrest those responsible for vandalizing critical infrastructure on the Second
Niger Bridge. Obi emphasized that such actions could severely harm commuters.
Reacting to a viral video where a man
detailed the vandalism occurring on the bridge, Obi took to X to describe these
acts as sabotage that must be condemned. He expressed his gratitude to the
young man, identified as Lord Zeus, for his patriotism and courage in raising
the alarm about this issue.
“I want to thank immensely the young man,
Lord Zeus, who, driven by patriotism and courage, raised the alarm about the
vandalization of the Second Niger Bridge,” Obi stated. “The viral video of this
good Nigerian highlights the senseless criminality and vandalism of our
collective assets, which could cause grievous harm to the public if left
unchecked.”
Obi elaborated on the issue, noting that
the vandalism of the bridge’s infrastructure by criminals poses a significant
threat to road users and overall public safety. He also drew attention to other
instances of public property destruction, such as the vandalism of railway
tracks, high voltage cables, and aluminum railings on bridges.
“These acts of sabotage and criminality
must be condemned in their entirety. Now that this critical issue has been
exposed, I urge the government and security agencies to follow up by conducting
a thorough investigation and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” Obi urged.
Additionally, Obi called for the implementation of strict disciplinary measures for those who vandalize public assets. He also advocated for the installation of reliable surveillance systems to monitor and protect vital public infrastructure.
