Killing of 5 Soldiers: FG to Crack Down on Non-State Actors – President Tinubu

President Ahmed Tinubu has declared a firm stance against those enforcing sit-at-home orders in the south-east, labeling such actions as treasonous. In a statement he personally signed on Saturday, Tinubu vowed to take decisive action against those responsible for the recent killing of five soldiers in Aba, Abia State.

Reacting to the tragic incident, President Tinubu emphasized that no Nigerian has the right to harm any state agent. He directed security forces to pursue the perpetrators and ensure justice is served for the fallen soldiers.

"I have received the disheartening news of the killing of five soldiers by suspected militants of the proscribed terrorist organization, IPOB. These soldiers, on peacekeeping duty in Aba, Abia State, were murdered just two months after a similar incident in Okuama, Delta State," Tinubu stated.

Condemning the attacks, he added, "These barbaric and evil acts must never be condoned. Our soldiers and police are tasked with protecting us from aggressors and non-state actors. Many have paid the ultimate price, and some have been mistreated by those they protect. They do not deserve such mindless attacks."

President Tinubu assured that the federal government would respond strongly to those who habitually target armed forces personnel. "No one should have the audacity to kill agents of the state. The government and the armed forces have the capacity to crush violent non-state actors making our communities unsafe."

He urged security agencies to identify and apprehend both the masterminds of the Aba attack and those advocating for sit-at-home orders, stating that their actions constitute treason. "The restraint shown by security forces should not be mistaken for weakness. While we strive for a peaceful society, the government will act appropriately when the lives of our officers are at risk."

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the slain soldiers and encouraged other peacekeeping personnel not to be discouraged by the incident.
