The National Association of Nigerian
Students (NANS) has called on the administration of President Bola Tinubu to
meet the demands of Organized Labour. In a weekend statement by NANS President
Pedro Obi, the student body expressed solidarity with labour unions advocating
for an increase in the national minimum wage.
NANS highlighted the current economic
hardships as a justification for the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) demand. The
statement emphasized the need for the Federal Government to respond promptly
and favorably to the legitimate demands of Nigerian workers.
"The economic realities have
significantly eroded the purchasing power of the average Nigerian worker.
Inflation, the rising cost of living, and the continuous devaluation of the
naira have made it increasingly difficult for many families to meet their basic
needs," the statement read.
NANS urges the government to take swift action to address these issues and support the welfare of Nigerian workers.
