Peter Obi: Obidient Movement is Independent of Any Political Party

Mr Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has clarified that the 'Obidient Movement' is not affiliated with or directed by any specific political party.

Recently, the Labour Party announced the appointment of eight individuals to oversee a new 'Obidient Directorate.' This move was part of the party’s strategy to incorporate millions of Nigerian youths, particularly those in the 'Obidient' community, into the larger party structure.

However, Peter Obi took to his X handle on Wednesday to emphasize that the 'Obidient Movement' transcends any single political party. He described it as a broad, inclusive collective that goes beyond traditional political, religious, and ethnic boundaries.

"I want to categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not a directorate of any particular political party. Any individuals claiming to lead this so-called directorate are not representatives of the wider Obidient Movement," Obi stated.

He acknowledged that while political parties might have youth mobilization directorates, the 'Obidient Movement' is a much broader entity. Its membership spans across Africa and the globe, including people from various backgrounds, rural communities, and both public and private sectors. These members are united by a shared vision for a new and improved Nigeria.

Obi continued, "Guided by principles of adaptive and transformative change, progress, discipline, and democratic values, the Obidient Movement advocates for fairness, equity, inclusivity, and justice. It is committed to accountable and responsible governance. Our members are dedicated to the New Nigeria project, anchored on loyalty, integrity, and democratic values."

The movement seeks to foster positive change through a commitment to integrity, honesty, and accountability, rejecting any deceitful behaviors. "We serve as a beacon of hope for a reimagined Nigeria, where leadership is grounded in character, capacity, competence, compassion, and the well-being of all citizens," he added.

Obi concluded by reiterating that the 'Obidient Movement' operates independently of any political party and its membership is not confined to any particular affiliation. "Our focus remains steadfast on driving positive change and promoting a new Nigeria for all. This is who we are and will remain for all time."

Obi was right. The obidient movement is not really affiliated to any political party and that how it's supposed to be.
