NDDC Issues Warning on Fraudulent Youth Internship Scheme

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding fraudulent activities surrounding its Youth Internship Scheme. Scammers are reportedly impersonating NDDC officials, sending false messages claiming individuals have been selected for the internship program and requesting personal details and fees.

NDDC Clarifies Internship Scheme Closure

In a statement released on Friday by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Director of Corporate Affairs, NDDC, the commission emphasized that registration for the legitimate Youth Internship Scheme had already closed on August 31, 2024. The statement, made available to DAILY POST, confirmed that any unsolicited messages received after this date should be treated as fraudulent.

“We have received multiple reports of individuals receiving unsolicited messages claiming they have been selected for the NDDC Youth Internship Scheme. These messages often request personal information and an acceptance fee, which is not part of our official process,” the statement read.

NDDC Does Not Request Fees for Internship Placement

Thompson-Wakama made it clear that NDDC does not require any fees or payments for its internship program. Any communication demanding payments for placement in the scheme is fraudulent. The NDDC stressed that the commission has no ties to these activities and urged the public to be cautious.

“All official communications from NDDC will be shared through our verified websites and social media channels. If anyone receives messages similar to those described, we strongly advise that they ignore them and report such incidents to the authorities immediately,” the statement added.

Protecting Privacy and Safety

The NDDC reiterated its commitment to the safety and privacy of the public, advising people not to share personal information with unauthorized sources. The commission urged individuals to only use official NDDC channels for inquiries about empowerment programs and other initiatives.

For any legitimate concerns or questions regarding NDDC’s internship scheme or other empowerment programs, the public is encouraged to contact the organization directly through its verified platforms.

By issuing this warning, the NDDC aims to protect potential interns and the public from falling victim to fraudulent schemes and to ensure transparency in its programs.

Conclusion

The NDDC is taking proactive steps to address the rising concerns over scams related to its Youth Internship Scheme. The public is advised to stay vigilant, only trust verified communications from the commission, and report any suspicious activities to the proper authorities to avoid being defrauded.
