Mr. Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, has ordered the immediate deployment of security personnel to all schools, hospitals, and key national infrastructure nationwide.
The disclosure was made in a
statement that CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force's public relations officer,
released on Sunday in Abuja.
In some states of the federation,
Baba also commanded frequent patrols, stop-and-search procedures, raids, and a
show of force by tactical commanders to combat crime and criminality.
He issued the order as he was
examining the nation's overall security situation following reports submitted
by police commanders and formations.
In order to find criminals' hiding
places and flush them out, he urged strategic police managers at all levels to
prioritize the use of intelligence gathering, particularly conventional and
local intelligence.
Baba instructed all of the officers
and members of the police to extend the war against crime to the bushes and
unfinished buildings where suspected criminals might hide out.
He urged the police to profile
suspects and bring the appropriate charges against those who were found to be
culpable.
He urged Nigerians to work with the
police because they would frequently be present in key locations, on major
thoroughfares, and in neighborhoods.
