Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss at Brentford, their second loss in a row in as many games, when David De Gea again failed to stop a soft shot.
United lost both of their opening
league games for the first time since 1992, the start of the Premier League.
De Gea's oversight was followed by
a poor attempt to play from the back. In the 18th minute, Mathias Jensen
intercepted the Spaniard's pass to Christian Eriksen, which led to a scramble
in the United defense and an easy goal for the home team.
Twelve minutes later, Brentford
added a third goal as a result of their continued pressure on United.
When Bryan Mbeumo completed a
spectacular counterattack in the 35th minute to give his team a four-goal lead,
the outcome seemed all but certain.
After Mbeumo scored, Erik ten Haag
displayed a disappointed expression that perfectly reflected the mood of the
team and its supporters. Except for the jersey they wore during the drubbing,
everything currently looks bleak for United.
