Panic in Imo as Unknown Gunmen Shoot Two Police Officers and a Civilian

 



A wave of panic has swept through Imo State after unidentified gunmen attacked a security checkpoint on the Owerri-Okigwe road, shooting two police officers and a civilian. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at around 6:25 am in the Akabo area of Ikeduru Council.


Details of the Incident 

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen, driving recklessly, opened fire on two police officers stationed at the checkpoint. A civilian inside a nearby house was also targeted and shot. A viral video captured the chaotic aftermath, showing two uniformed police officers lying on the ground and another individual inside a house.


One eyewitness in the video recounted, "Unknown gunmen in a vehicle driving roughly were shooting sporadically after killing the two police officers at a security checkpoint and also shot a man inside his house. They targeted the man and shot him."

 

Community Reaction 

The attack has led to widespread fear among residents, prompting many to flee for safety. Shop owners have closed their businesses as a precaution. A resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said, "We are running. Nobody knows what is next. So we have to take cover for the moment until everything is calm. The best thing is to close your shop at the moment."

 

Official Response 

As of the time of filing this report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, has not yet commented on the incident. The community remains on high alert as authorities work to restore calm and investigate the attack.
