President Tinubu Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum for New Minimum Wage

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to present the cost implications for the proposed new minimum wage within 48 hours. This directive was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a briefing with State House Correspondents following a negotiation meeting with the President at Aso Rock.

Idris stated, "All parties involved in the negotiation of the new minimum wage will collaborate with organized labour to propose a new minimum wage for Nigerians within one week. We are committed to working together diligently over the next week to ensure we establish a new wage that is acceptable, sustainable, and realistic for Nigeria."

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have temporarily called off their strike, which began on Monday, for one week to allow for further negotiations with the Federal Government.
