The Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to boost fuel allocations to its members to alleviate the long queues at filling stations. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Friday, IPMAN National Vice President Alhaji Hammed Fasola attributed the fuel scarcity to low allocation.
Fasola
emphasized that direct fuel allocations from NNPC to IPMAN members would make
petrol more affordable for Nigerians, thus reducing queues. Currently, IPMAN
members are forced to sell at higher prices due to purchasing fuel at exorbitant
rates from major marketers or depot owners.
He
pointed out that IPMAN has formally requested the NNPC to restore the previous
50% allocation, noting that IPMAN members operate 80% of the filling stations
in Nigeria. Fasola remarked, "We used to receive 50% of the allocations,
but recently, this has decreased significantly. We are urging the NNPC to
address this issue to prevent independent marketers from selling at high
prices, which tarnishes our image."
Fasola
reiterated that while IPMAN members are receiving some fuel allocations, it is
insufficient compared to the past. He stressed the need for the NNPC to correct
the current allocation imbalance to ensure fair pricing and reduce the burden
on consumers.
By addressing these allocation issues, IPMAN aims to mitigate fuel scarcity and improve the distribution system, ultimately benefiting the Nigerian populace.
