ASUU and Nigerian Government Hold Closed-Door Meeting Amid Looming Strike

Representatives from the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are currently engaged in a closed-door meeting aimed at addressing ongoing issues and preventing a planned strike by the union.

Meeting Details

The meeting, taking place in the office of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, began at approximately 4:30 PM. The Federal Government's team includes the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, and other top officials from the Ministry.

Key Issues at Stake

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke, who is leading the union’s delegation, stated that the meeting aims to resolve lingering issues affecting universities in an effort to avert the planned strike.

“There are many outstanding issues within the system that we believe should have been addressed by now. These issues should have been resolved in line with the promises made by President Bola Tinubu to prevent strikes in the university system. We hope this meeting will resolve some of these issues so we can move forward as a country and improve our university system,” Osodeke said.

Government's Position
