Customs Seize N4 Billion Worth of Drugs |
The Nigeria Customs Service has announced the interception of hard drugs valued at N4.1 billion, originating from Canada and India, within a single month. Comptroller General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi shared this information during a press briefing at the Tincan Island Command in Lagos on Friday.
Adeniyi detailed the seizure of several
packs of cannabis indica, weighing a total of 1,072 kilograms, that were
shipped from Canada over the past month. "The service intercepted three plastic
drums concealing numerous packets of Cannabis Indica, along with 46 bags
containing 2,144 packets of the same substance, all weighing 1,072kg. The
approximate street value of these illicit drugs is N3.2 billion," he
stated.
Additionally, the service confiscated 877
cartons of Bacardin Syrup from India. "These cartons contained 200 bottles
of 100ml Barcadin cough syrup with codeine per carton, along with 82 cartons of
Really Extra Diclofenac Sodium 50mg tablets, with 600 packs per carton,"
Adeniyi explained.
He further noted that the street value of
the seized pharmaceutical products was estimated at N964 million.
The Nigeria Customs Service continues to intensify its efforts to combat the smuggling of illegal drugs into the country, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
