The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is
set to lift the travel restrictions previously imposed on Nigeria, according to
the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo. Speaking
at a welcome dinner for delegates attending the International Air Transport
Association (IATA) 80th Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit
in Dubai, Keyamo confirmed that issues related to visa denial by the UAE have
been resolved.
Keyamo stated that the official
announcement would be made soon, with only minor details left to finalize.
"The visa issue has been resolved, and the announcement is imminent. They
are just finalizing the details. The announcement will be made in a couple of
weeks," he said.
Emphasizing the importance of the
UAE as a partner, Keyamo highlighted the significant investments Nigerians have
in the UAE. "Nigerians have substantial stakes here in the UAE with
numerous investments. Our goal is to facilitate easier travel for the millions
of Nigerians who have been urging us to reopen this route and streamline the
visa application process," he explained.
Keyamo also noted the warm reception he received from UAE officials, which underscored the value they place on the relationship with Nigeria. "I was on the same ride with the ruler of Dubai, the Minister, and the head of Emirates Group, among other top officials. This privilege reflects their high regard for Nigeria and their renewed trust in us. I want to express my gratitude to them and assure that we will continue to build on this renewed partnership," he added.
