In preparation for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the Labour Party officially inaugurated its governorship campaign council on Wednesday, aiming to attract more eligible voters to its cause.
Kelly Ogbaloi, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, who led the inauguration, highlighted that over 30 strategic committees have been established to collaborate with the campaign council headed by Sam Omede. Ogbaloi expressed confidence in the party's chances of winning, citing public dissatisfaction with the two major parties that have governed Edo State since the 1999 political dispensation.
Ogbaloi emphasized the party's commitment to leveraging all available resources to rally support for its gubernatorial candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata, and his running mate, Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, SAN. He urged the public to disregard any conflicting information about the party’s candidate, affirming that there is only one official candidate.
The campaign strategy includes not only the state campaign council but also coordinators at the senatorial, local government, and ward levels. These coordinators will work to promote the party's candidate throughout Edo's 18 local government areas, three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, and 192 wards.
Barrister Olumide Akpata, in an interview, expressed confidence in the newly formed campaign council, praising the experience and loyalty of its members. "If you listen to the names mentioned, they are an array of very faithful and loyal party men and women, most of whom are very experienced," Akpata stated.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Akpata remarked, "The journey to Dennis Osadebay Avenue is not an easy one. You need those who have worked the road before and understand the nuances of campaigning and politicking."
He further highlighted the appointment of Reverend Sam Omede as the Director-General of the campaign council, supported by three deputy director-generals for each zone, and a woman leader chairing the women’s mobilization committee. "With these strategic choices, I am confident and excited about our prospects," Akpata added.
Sam Omede, the Director-General of the campaign council, acknowledged the substantial task ahead but expressed faith that with divine assistance, their efforts would be successful. Omede underscored the council's primary objective: to coordinate and collaborate with all committees to engage and persuade more eligible voters across the state.
As the Labour Party gears up for the election, their comprehensive strategy and
experienced team reflect their determination to secure a victory on September 21.
