Police Dislodge Secessionist Group in Anambra |
In a decisive action against secessionist activities, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully raided and dislodged a notorious group in the region. Acting on credible intelligence reports, the police have made significant strides in restoring order.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s
spokesperson, announced on Tuesday in a statement from Awka that a police-led
joint security force intercepted four members of the military wing of the
proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network
(ESN) in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The operation was based on long-standing
intelligence about planned attacks by the ESN operatives on security personnel
and innocent civilians. Among the arrested is Maduabuchi Nwafor, also known as
Omenkpo, a 32-year-old native of Ufuma. Nwafor is identified as one of the
group's herbalists, responsible for preparing charms and using his shrine for
initiation ceremonies and meetings.
Additionally, another unnamed suspect,
currently cooperating with the police, confessed to being one of the gunmen
dispatched by the group to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order on May 30.
Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam has ordered further investigations to uncover more hideouts of the insurgents within the state, aiming to dismantle their operations completely.
